"Hip Hop on Justin.TV"

From: www.Justin.TV
By: Tia Marie on 01/08/2010 at 12:42

Recently here at Justin.tv, we have been featuring some great hip hop talent, to the excitement of our users. It's been a lot of fun showcasing these artists, all with different styles, to expose the many different layers of hip hop culture.

We most recently featured Stones Throw artists Strong Arm Steady, who have long been a staple of classic West Coast hip hop. The group is comprised of Krondon, Phil Da Agony, and Mitchy Slick, with previous members including hard-hitting notables like Xzibit and Planet Asia. Strong Arm Steady was also joined by the legendary DJ J.Rocc of the World Famous Beat Junkies. During their broadcast, they chatted with fans, played some tracks, and spit some rhymes. Check out the embedded clip from their broadcast!

We have also featured Bay Area-local up and coming artists. Hopie Spitshard may not look like your typical rapper, but she embraces her identity as a female rapper and proudly announces her Filipina heritage: two significantly underrepresented groups in hip-hop culture. She played some classic and unreleased tracks, and had a blast chatting with fans, new and old.

DJ Platurn of the Oakland Faders came on and discussed some upcoming projects and collaborations he is working on, and also played some tracks for the viewers. Keno from hip hop duo The Otherside did some freestyling for the viewers, and was backed up by DJ Jun's beatboxing.

We also featured SWTBRDS, a hip hop collective that consists of emcees, DJs, producers, and artists. They discussed the state of Bay Area hip hop, influences, and upcoming projects. The broadcast had some guests, including da Vinci, Ammbush, DJ Strategy, DJ Teeko, and Stash Magazine. da Vinci spit a few rhymes and Teeko did a set for the viewers, which was a hit in the chatroom!

We have a lot of talent lined up, so stay tuned for more hip hop artists to be featured and don't forget to add these channels to be notified of their next broadcasts!

She's a well known figure in the bay area, from songs with DEL the Funky Homosapien to her dj Snake eyes, one the bays illest turntablest this girl knows her hip hop. Adapt SS09 Lookbook on C'est La Vie

Just a blurb and report of the Lookbook, but still l o v e =)

Hello honey bunches. So, we’ve all been craving for something new in the streetwear scene, hence all the women’s line that we’ve all come to know and love, I still feel like the selections are limited. Then, to my surprise I open an email from Abigail over at Made Jewelry informing me about a new women’s line by Adapt Advancers who recently launched their latest women’s collection dubbed “Pigeon and Dame” modeled by SF’s lyricist Hopie Spitshard. The collection offers a range of different tees with clean and fresh aesthetics that us women can’t get enough of. The new release are now available at TRUE and Karmaloop.com. Thanks Abigail for the heads up, we highly appreciate it! ;]

Small Flick on www.HipHopDX.com

Here's my flick on the front page of HipHopDX.com. It's just a flick from the Adapt Advancers SS09 Lookbook, and has really nothing to do with music, so I didn't think to make too much of a big deal out of it for myself, BUT... I am proud of my fam at Adapt for getting shine =)

Just wait for the Hopie Spitshard for Adapt Clothing T-Shirt line... You def will not get me to shut up about THAT when it drops. =O

Listen up ya'll!! Here is an urgent P.S.A from a 24KMilkcrate.Com certified emcee/songwriter Hopie Spitshard filling you in on her agenda to take over Earth's hip hop scene. The warning isn't meant to be taken lightly, and it includes listening samples of her weapon of choice (hip hop), testimony by Space (Bayliens), Hollywood Holt, Million Dollar Mano, on what a "Hopie" is and as usual a big double middle finger from Johnny Polygon at the end. Enjoy.

GooooodMusic.

Been MIA for a minute, Junior year's catchin' up with me finally. APBio and Honors English FTL. But at least I'm finally gettin' my act together and attending school, studying and such. Anyway..
For those that may not know.
My picks.
Best Music Today.

. . .

Also, there's one additional rapper I'd like to include, HopieSpitsHard. People immediately discriminate against female rappers right off the bat, assuming that the most plausible personality of a female rapper is a person that uses sex appeal to sell. Because of all the skewed facts being drawn into the ignorant community, a lot of people turn their heads when they hear of female rappers. Those of you that think like that are ignorant. Females can spit too. HipHop is for everybody. To me, good music is good music. No matter what race, gender, face, if its good its good. HopieSpitsHard makes good music, that's all that matters. Not whether shes a man or woman. Which is why you should drop the stereotypical nonsense and get with something a little more progressive. She's an intellectual rapper who can spit raw rhymes in a cunning, cagy type fashion. End of story.

Today marks the release of Hopie Spitshard’s solo debut album The Diamond Dame. The Diamond Dame is 13 original tracks written by Hopie and produced by 6Fingers and features Del the Funky Homosapien, Bambu (Native Guns), Topkat, EyeASage, Kid Static and Smigg Dirtee! The album is great and the ladies and I have been listening to it on repeat at M.I.S.S. Crew HQ. Last week we had the chance to sit down with Hopie to talk about her influences, how she got her start and what it’s like to be a woman rapping in a male-dominated industry.
